Keeping true to form the Amerind Foundation continues holding events helping create awareness and boosting membership to its Native American museum.
On Saturday, the museum in Dragoon, located off Interstate 10 east of Benson, invites the public to a cultural celebration of the Tohono O'odham people with arts and crafts, traditional foods and music.
On Sunday, as well as Saturday, Amerind is also holding " a huge book sale," said Jill Williams, a museum spokeswoman.
The museum, which houses an array of Native American archeology, art, history and culture, has been holding similar events since the fall of 2003 when a Navajo water color and cultural celebration kicked off the events.
Following the December Tohono O'odham event, Amerind hosted a Hopi cultural celebration in January, an Apache cultural celebration in February and another Navajo celebration last month.
Saturday will mark the second visit from the Tohono O'odham Nation and there is no charge for the event.
In December 2003, basket weavers and potters created and displayed their wares and a string ensemble entertained and Williams said most of the same presenters are expected to attend, and will feature a basket-weaving class for foundation members.
Through it all, the aromas of Indian tacos, burritos, cholla buds and popovers filled the air, as visitors rummaged through the many books on sale.
"We're looking forward to a great weekend," said Williams, while noting the various cultural programs have been well attended.
"We've had anywhere from 100 to a few hundred people," said Williams.
Next month, Museum Director John Ware will lecture at the Cochise College Benson Center.
The lecture, Williams said, is a climax to the various events the Amerind Foundation has held.
To get to the Amerind Foundation, take Interstate 10 exit 318 between Benson and Willcox. Call 586-3666 or log onto
