Good Samaritans plentiful in Benson
Let me give you a little insight into the people of Benson. My wife and I moved to Benson three years ago. We recently celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary, so it goes without saying that we are a part of the "elder" crowd.
We have noticed more than once, that approaching the door at Safeway or at the new Wal-Mart, we would get there about the same time as someone else. Who ever it happened to be would pull the cart out and give it to us, and they would take the next one. Nice but shocking!
At our age, things happen, and we find ourselves somewhat restricted in what we can do. Last year, we had a flat tire, and David came over from across the street and changed it for us - and without asking.
This year, with all the rain, the weeds and grasses really came on so quick that it got out of hand before we could recover and do something about it. The crowning event came starting Aug. 22 when our neighbor behind us came over and pulled a lot of weeds for us. On the 26th, the neighbor across the street and his two girls came over and did the remaining three sides. In each case, they ask if it is OK (who could say no?), but without reservation and expecting nothing in return. Both even raked and took the clippings away for disposal. The place looks great!
We just aren't used to being treated with the respect we get here. That awful place we came from just isn't that way. No one would even know if we were alive or dead until the end of the month, when we didn't pay the bills.
Benson has been very good to us, and we thank you, Joe, Charles (and family), David and the nameless that we will probably never see again. Thank you, each and every one.
