Circo Osorio of the American Crown Circus was in town last week, bringing family fun and delight for Benson residents.

On a cold night at Lions Park, large crowds gathered to see the different kinds of performances that included a hula-hoop performer, jugglers, reportedly the world' s smallest show horse, clown comedy and various high-flying and death-defying acts.

With the show having sold out during its first performance, Ringmaster Roberto Osorio said he was pleased the circus had such a positive response from the community.

"It went really good. It was a packed house and you couldn't ask for anything more," Osorio said.

Owning the Circo Osorio with his brothers, Leo and Frank, Osorio said his family has a circus in Mexico that's been around for 85 years and is well known there among the circus performing community.

"It's one of the most well-respected circuses in Mexico," Osorio said.

Osorio said his performers were pleased with how well the kids responded to the show and it's always good when families are able to enjoy something like the circus together. He said parents remember going to see performers when they were young and want to share that experience with their children.

"It's a big part of growing up," Osorio said.

Melissa Wichmann said she enjoyed the performance and especially liked Corrina, the hula-hoop performer. Her daughter, Madison, also had fun and got into the action by repeatedly yelling, "don't fall!" during some of the more perilous acts, she said.

Wichmann added the event offered something unique and different to watch.

"It's nice for Benson and good to have something to do like this," Wichmann said.

Danny Farmer said many of the performers' feats were impressive and that he was glad his kids enjoyed the show. He said his daughter Alyssa really liked the little horse and just couldn't take her eyes of it.

"She was staring the whole time," Farmer said.

Janelle Farmer, another of Danny's daughters, liked when the hula-hoop performer used 20 hoops in her show and enjoyed watching a contortionist squeeze his entire body into a two-foot square box.

"I liked how he could fit his whole body in the box," Janelle Farmer said.

Farmer said the show offered families a fun thing to watch while providing a great way to spend time with each other.

"It gives a family something to do together and for the kids to go to," Farmer said.
