Cold case detective seeks caller in 2002 murder probe

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office is still actively investigating a 2002 murder in Mescal, and they hope a female caller who recently contacted their Sierra Vista office will call again.
Detective Bill Ivory, who is currently overseeing the homicide investigation, reports that the woman called earlier this month and left a message about the death of Terry Knight. 'We would very, very much like to speak with her,' said Ivory, noting the woman may remain anonymous.
Knight, age 54, was found shot to death in his Mescal home in May 2002. Although authorities have long suspected who was involved in the shooting, Ivory said the investigation initially hit a 'wall of slience from friend and aquaintances.'
In early 2007, Ivory took over the case when it was assigned to the Cold Case program. He retested forensic evidence and interviewed dozens of Knight's friends and neighbors.
Late last year, the Sheriff's Office and the County Attorney's Office released a statement that they will not pursue charges against anyone who has withheld information about the shooting. At that time, Ivory stated his goal 'is identifying the murderer, and I'm confident I'll do so. That's the only person who needs to worry."
The woman who called earlier and anyone else with information about the shootings is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 800-362-0812 and press option 4. Or call directly to the detective's office at 520-805-3280.
