Marine Corps

League collecting

The Cpl. G. Salcedo Detachment, Marine Corps League will again be at Benson Wal-Mart to accept toys for the local girls and boys.

Collections are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14, Saturday, Nov. 15 and with final collecting dates Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13. Local former Marines will man the booth from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each date.


VFW fundraising dinnner Friday

VFW Post 6271, 233 E. 5th St., Benson, is hosting a fundraising dinner on Friday, Oct. 31, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Menu includes beer battered fish, french fries, coleslaw, cornbread, dessert and beverage. Cost is $6. For takeout, call 586-2197. Open to the public. The VFW also hosts Sunday bingo beginning at 6 p.m. Kitchen opens one hour prior.

Halloween fun at

Benson City Hall

Halloween movie and games featuring Disney's Halloweentown High (Rated G) will be held Friday, Oct. 31 at Benson City Hall Council Chambers from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be trick-or-treat bags full of goodies for the offering. The city's Recreation Department is hosting the event. For information, call 586-2245.

Water 101 seminar

at Cochise College

The Benson / San Pedro Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Water 101 seminar on Oct. 30 at the Benson campus of Cochise College. The program features presentations by three water experts: Kristine Uhlman from the UofA's Water Resources Research Center, Jesse Dickinson of the US Geological Survey, and Thomas Whitmer of the AZ Dept. of Water Resources. The program is being co-hosted by Cochise County's Water Policy Office and is advertised as providing an understanding of the basics of water.

The program starts at 6:30 p.m. Cochise College is located on the east side of State Route 90, one mile south of Interstate 10. For more information call the chamber at 586-2842.

Eagles bingo

weekly; fish fry

The Benson Eagles No. 3593 weekly bingo is now Wednesday with early bird game at 6 p.m. Ticket sales beginning at 5:30 p.m. Kitchen opens at 5 p.m. The Eagles feature new games, "progressive cover all," at the aerie, 750 E. 4th St. Call 586-3043 for more information. The Eagles host a fish fry every other Friday. The next one is set for Nov. 7, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Festival of the Arts

set for Nov. 8-9

Festival of the Arts at Holy Trinity Monastery in St. David will be held Saturday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 9.

There will be vendors, raffles, entertainment and plenty of food. Call 720-4642 for information.

Donate items for deployed troops

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 45 will be packing boxes Nov. 11 to send to the troops for the holidays. Food items or funds for postage ($11 per box) are sought. For information call Nancy Iverson at 586-3611 or Melissa DiPeso at 686-0729.

The Pomerene Food Bank is accepting donations of good saleable items for their monthly yard sales. All proceeds benefit the food bank and are tax deductible. Call 586-4738 for more information.

The Community Food Pantry of Benson is seeking a volunteer to become a board member. Anyone interested can contact Larry Martinez at 586-9208.

Craft fair upcoming at 7th Day Adventist

A craft fair will be held Nov. 7 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Benson Seventh Day Adventist Church at 6th and Patagonia streets. The event features quality crafts and baked goods.

Lions all-you-can-eat

monthly breakfast

Benson Lions' all-you- can-eat breakfast will be held Sunday, Nov. 2. Menu features pancakes, eggs, two pieces of bacon, juice, coffee or tea from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Lions Club, 599 S. Dragoon St. Lions bingo held on Fridays. Doors open at 4 p.m., early birds start at 6:30 p.m.

Grace Chapel Family Harvest Festival

Grace Chapel's Family Harvest (Halloween) Festival will be on Friday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m.

There will be activities for all ages, costumes are welcomed, bring a can of food for church food bank.

Potluck begins at 5 p.m. and have games and a trunk or treat at approximately 5:45 p.m. Hotdogs will be served, s'mores around a campfire and ghost stories (Especially planned for older youth) straight out of the Bible at 7 p.m.

Calvary St. David

Harvest Festival

Join Calvary St. David, along with Cub Scout Pack 454 at their 5th Annual Harvest Festival There will be food, jumping castle, a clown, and games.

The festival is from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for kids up to 10 years of age on Friday, Oct. 31, at 15 W Merrill Lane. For more information call Daina Valenzuela at 720-4944.

Pack 454 collecting

for food drive

Cub Scout Pack 454 is Sponsoring a community food drive for those in need.

Donate your non- perishable food by Nov. 20. Food boxes will be prepared and delivered by Pack 454 just in time for families to enjoy this Thanksgiving.

Drop off boxes are located at St. David School, St. David Post office, St. David Fire Department, Calvary St. David Church, and Apache RV Park.

Critter Sitters to hold pet obedience classes

Critter Sitters is forming a Basic Obedience class Saturday Nov. 22 at 9:30 a.m. Sit down, Loose leash walking and more will be covered.

A puppy socialization class is forming for Teusday Nov. 18 at 5 p.m. This is for 8-16 week-old puppies. An introduction to agility class is starting Sunday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. Jumps, tunnels, pause box and more will be covered.

LDS Stake

Conference set

The St. David Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will hold a Stake Conference Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. This conference will include a satellite broadcast from church headquarters. A member of the First Presidency or Quorum of the Twelve will preside. Speakers from the General Authorities and General Auxiliaries of the church will also participate. Stake members should meet in their own local ward buildings for this conference. Open to the public.

Cancer support group golf tournament

The Willcox Cancer Support Group is hosting a golf tournament on Nov. 8, at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Willcox. The tournament will be a four person, handicapped, 18-hole scramble.

The tournament begins at 10 a.m. Cost is $35 per person and includes a steak dinner cooked by Big Tex's and Stronghold Feeds. All proceeds go to the Willcox Cancer Support Group.

Modern western square dancing

Modern western square dancing returns to Cochise Terrace RV Resort east of Vail in Benson. Dances are held on Tuesday nights from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Cochise Terrace RV Resort is located one mile south of exit 302, I-10 on Highway 90. Dancing is from Nov. 4 through the first part of February. Lessons are offered on Tuesday nights from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Cochise Terrace. The first two lessons (Nov. 4 and Nov. 11) are free.
