The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Benson is offering local residents an easy and convenient way to receive immunization and vaccine counseling services year-round.

After meeting the federal and state requirements by their parent company, Medicine Shoppe International, Inc., the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Benson is offering a Specialized Care Center with a certified staff to administer immunizations and offer in-depth counseling to the community.

Pharmacists Richard Trepanier and Maria Trepanier have been trained to help with immunizations and have been certified by the American Pharmacists Association to offer several types of immunization services.

These services include administering vaccines, giving counseling on annual and seasonal immunizations, collaborating with local physicians to make sure customers are up to date with their immunizations and offering seasonal immunization clinics.

With the arrival of fall, Marla Trepanier says the Medicine Shoppe is emphasizing the importance of staying up to date on vaccines since this is a common time for people to start suffering from contagious sicknesses like the flu and pneumonia.

In addition to a yearly flu shot, Marla Trepanier said it was important for people to stay up-to-date on other immunizations and other shots, like tetanus, meningitis and hepatitis.

"Immunizations are an important part of community-wide health because they protect against preventable diseases," Marla Trepanier said. "We are excited to offer the community convenient access to immunizations and to spend time counseling and helping customers better understand their health and the importance of regularly scheduled immunizations."

For information on vaccines, Marla Trenpanier says customers can call the Medicine Shoppe. The pharmacy can also bill Medicare, MercyCare and other insurance companies.

The Benson Medicine Shoppe is located at 795 West Fourth Street and can be reached at 586-1299.
