After the break, the Benson Bobcats girls' basketball team started the second half of the season on a good note, defeating Valley Union 55-46.

Kayla Haro led the victory, scoring 16 points and bringing down five rebounds. Haro also had five steals on defense and three assists on offense.

The Bobcats had to come from behind in the victory, falling 15-13 in the first quarter, and trailing slightly at halftime 23-21.

In the third quarter the Bobcats came out strong, outscoring Valley Union 18-10. In the fourth, the Lady Bobcats put the game away, adding another 16 points to the total.

Stephanie Ramirez finished the game with 12 points, five assists and one block and Stacey Ramirez had 11 points, three assists and four steals.

"This was a good win for us," said Coach Kimberly East. "We have not played since Dec. 13, and we are missing some key players due to injuries. The tough stuff starts now. We will have to keep improving on the little things to be a conference contender. I am proud of how this team continues to work hard and improve their skills."

The Lady Bobcats have a tough road ahead as competition in the 2A East Conference is set to get under way this week. The Bobcats are not only struggling with injuries, but they continue to lack experience.

But East has said they are coming along and improving as the season progresses.

Willcox currently stands on top of the conference with an overall record of 7-2; Benson is 7-5, having played more games than their rival.

The Lady Bobcats hit the courts Tuesday night against Tombstone, in a conference game. Results of the contest were not available at press time.

On Friday the Bobcats will travel to Bisbee, and then to Tucson to take on Pusch Ridge Academy on Saturday.

The Lady Bobcats' next home game is Tuesday against Morenci, at 7 p.m.
