car and bike show
The 2009 car and bike show will be held May 23 at "The Thing" parking lot, exit 322 off Interstate 10. Registration is from 7 to 10 a.m. with judging from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Awards will be given at 2 p.m.
Registration before May 5 is $20. Later or same day registration is $25. Registration includes a show T-shirt, gift bag, raffle ticket and more. There is no charge for visitors.
Come out and see classic cars, bikes, muscle cars, custom vehicles, hot rods and more. There will be food, ice cream, music from the 50s and 60s and fun for the whole family. Call 520-586-0008.

Semiannual General Conference at LDS
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints invites all to participate in the 179th Semiannual General Conference, which will assemble in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday and Sunday April 4 -5. Messages of encouragement and guidance will be delivered by the First Presidency, members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and other general officers of the church. Music will be provided by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Local LDS churches will broadcast the conference live, Saturday and Sunday at 9 a.m.

Kiwanis Club to hold pancake breakfast
The Kiwanis Club of Benson is hosting a pancake breakfast in the park during the Blue Grass Festival on Saturday, April 25, beginning at 7 a.m.
The $6 breakfast includes: all-you-can-eat-pancakes, one or two sausage patties, and bottomless coffee, juice, or water.
The Kiwanis Club of Benson is fundraising to provide programs in local schools and other activities for Benson-area youth.

Transportation is available to the J-Six area only for students enrolled in the 21st Century Community Learning Center at Benson School. Bus leaves Benson Middle School at 5:30 p.m. with first drop off at Rice and Warren roads at the Fire Department. Second drop off at J-6 and Navajo. The Benson Primary School will be holding a Kindergarten Roundup Wednesday, April 8, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Multi-purpose Room to enroll students who are age 5, on or before Sept. 1, 2009. Bring child in to meet the kindergarten teachers.
Students will receive vision, hearing, speech and academic screenings to ensure positive placements in kindergarten.
Copy of student birth certificate and immunization record required. Students who attend the Kindergarten Roundup will receive a free backpack and school supplies.

Art, photography show upcoming
The 26th Annual Southeast Arizona Fine Arts and Photography Show is rapidly approaching.
Already the number of children participating in the show has grown tremendously. Last year over 450 entries from all over the state were showcased. Child or adult, if not on the mailing list, can get an entry form by calling Lisa Glenn at 520-384-2658.
This year's show will run from April 24 through April 26, The show will be held at the Willcox Community Center, 312 West Stewart Street in Willlcox.

Marguerite Cook scholarship
The Marguerite Cook Memorial Scholarship was established in 1977 in memory of the Willcox Cowbelles' first president and charter member, Marguerite (Mrs. Mark A.) Cook, and since that time scholarships have been awarded annually to area students.
To be eligible, a student must major in an agriculture-related field. The dollar amount and number of scholarships awarded depends upon availability of funds. Application forms are available at high school guidance departments at Benson, Bowie, Safford, San Simon and Willcox high schools or by mailing a request to Willcox Cowbelles, PO Box 354, Willcox, AZ 85644.
