Willcox girl escapes serious injury in rollover

A 17-year-old Willcox girl was treated and released for minor head injuries Sunday after rolling her vehicle across two lanes of travel on westbound Interstate 10.

Arizona Department of Public Safety Sgt. Sam Miller said around 1 p.m. the 17-year-old was traveling westbound on I-10 when she reached down to get a drink. Coming up on what law enforcement and Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) officials call a dangerous curve near the State Route 90 exit, the teenager lost control of the 2009 Toyota Sedan she was driving.

Miller said she overcorrected and shot across two lanes of traffic, rolling onto the westbound shoulder. Miller said she was later treated and released for a head injury.

No other vehicles were involved.

This fall, ADOT will begin a $44 million project to redesign the State Route 90 interchange, and fix the dangerous curves along I-10.

The curve will be taken out completely once construction is complete.
