The only member of the Benson tennis team to qualify for state, senior Nathan East made it to the second round of competition last week.
In the first round, East defeated Edward Sterling of Scottsdale Christian, 6-3 and 6-4.
"Nathan really did well in his first-round match," said Coach Kimberly East. "He did extremely well at serv
ing, and his net play. Beating one of the private schools is always a tough situation."
However, he struggled in the second round, losing two games to Nico Schell of Estrella Foothills.
"The second round was against a 3A player from Estrella Foothills," Coach East said. "Nathan had a much harder time this go around. He played really hard, and gave a very good effort. We are very proud of Nathan and his accomplishments this season."
East, who started the spring sports' season with the baseball team, moved back to tennis where he led the Bobcats throughout the year.
