Resident hopes to get Benson farmers' market established
A local resident is looking for community assistance in getting a local famers' market started, with the first event scheduled at the Arena Bar on June 19.
Iris Zyla said it's going to be called Iris's Farm & Swap. Besides fruits and vegetables, the Benson resident said she hopes to have a weekly swap meet.
However, to make the first event successful, Zyla said she is looking for interested vendors.
As a member of the Benson Food Bank, Zyla said a portion of the proceeds will be donated each week to the local charity, and the Pomerene Food Bank will also receive assistance.
Zyla said the idea grew from a small plan before. As a participant in the community garden, she said she always has too much produce and would love to share with the rest of the community.
If all goes well, she said she hopes to host the events every week on Friday night, and Saturday mornings.
