USMC detachment members sought

The Corporal George Salcido Detachment of the Marine Corps League meets at Benson Senior Center on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Meetings generally last about an hour.

The detachment is seeking new members to meet goals currently unattainable due to lack of membership.

New West School

student registration

New West School is accepting completed enrollment packets for all K-eighth-grade students for the 2009-10 school year. Registration packets can be picked up at 98 N. Oak Dr. in Mescal and 3225 W. Navajo Tr. in J-Six or a mailed packet can be requested. Originals or copies of child's birth certificate and shot records required. Space is limited. Call the school office at (520) 586-1976.

VFW fundraising

dinner Friday

VFW Post 6271, 233 E. 5th St., Benson, is holding its weekly fundraising dinner Friday, May 29, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Menu includes open-faced beef sandwich, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, salad and roll.

For take out or more information call 586-2197. A $6 donation is asked. Sunday bingo at 6 p.m., kitchen opens one hour prior.

The Benson Fraternal Order of Eagles host Wednesday night bingo, at the aerie, 750 E. 4th St. Kitchen opens at 5 p.m., cards on sale at 5:30 p.m., and play starts at 6 p.m. Open to the public. Call the aerie for details at 586-3043.

Friday fish fry May 29, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night tacos and darts starting at 4:30 p.m. Single and team darts all evening.

The Eagles memorial service will be held Sunday, May 31 at noon.

Offering a high standard curriculum and a solid environment for learning, Grace Christian Academy is a Christian School for preschool through 11th grade.

Rabies clinic at All Creatures June 13

A rabies clinic will be held Saturday, June 13 at All Creatures Veterinarian Clinic, 655 E. 4th St., Benson.

Cost is $20 per domestic animal. All dogs must be on leashs and cats in carriers. No exceptions. Dogs three months or older are required to have rabies shots. County and city animal control will be there for anyone needing to purchase dog license.

Community Food Pantry summer hours

The Community Food Pantry of Benson is operating under its summer hours, 9 a.m. to noon. until Aug. 26.

Eagle Scout project at High Street Cemetery

Manuel Santiago and his troop are working on an Eagle Scout project at the High Street Cemetery on June 6.

They will be cleaning up the first section of the cemetery, pulling weeds, raking and throwing away faded flowers and broken flower containers.

St. David farmers' market meeting set

Interested in helping to start a farmers' market in St. David or just want more information about it? Everyone is invited to the second community meeting on Saturday, May 30 from 9 to 11 a.m. at SPI Farm (105 W. Patton St.) across the highway from Patton Caf/ in St. David.

Saturday's meeting will update on the group's progress and welcome newcomers. A free tour of Ron Millet's mini farm where he raises chickens in moveable coops, goats, wheat, vegetables and red worms will be held after the meeting. A mesquite banana bread will be baked during a solar cooking demonstration. Free refreshments, organic seed catalogs, worm composing handouts and information on how to start cooking with the sun. Farm fresh eggs, the new crop of garlic and a small amount of fresh produce will also be for sale as a preview of what will be offered at the farmers market.

Program offered for autistic youngsters

The Heart of Peace Institute offers a summer program for young people with Autism Spectral Disorders and Developmental Delay.

This summer program offers alternative therapies. They include classical homeopathy, holistic nutrition, cranial aacral therapy, neurodevelopment reflex re-patterning skills, sensory integration, art and music therapy, movement therapy, counseling and support for parents. The program is designed for young people and a parent or grandparent.

The program runs Aug. 2-9, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Tucson Waldorf School, 3349 E. Presidio, Tucson.

Benson Elks

hamburger dinners

The Benson Elks have changed the menu from spaghetti to the summer favorite - hamburgers for their Tuesday night fundraiser dinners.

The Elks will be serving burgers, with all the trimmings, chips or salad, weekly from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 623 Foothill Dr., for a $6 donation. Proceeds donated to charity. Willow Lakes Bible study Tuesdays

The Willow Lakes Women's nondenominational Bible study is held Tuesday mornings at 2125 W. Vista Dr., in the Willow Lakes club house. Join them for tea, Bible study and sisterhood. Beginning study will be women of the Old Testament.
