The City of Benson will be celebrating the nation's birthday right on Saturday, with plenty of traditions returning, and another big finale with a big fireworks show is expected.
The fun gets under way Saturday morning with the annual parade starting at 9 a.m.
Being honored as the Grand Marshal is Benson resident Guillermo (Willie) Haro.
Born in 1922, the longtime resident has plenty to be proud of, being a surviving World War II veteran.
Haro, who came with his family to Benson in 1958, served in the U.S. military before becoming a railroad worker.
Haro was a part of the Civilian Conservation Corp, which was created by President Theodore Roosevelt. He served in the corp for 18 months, before starting his career with the railroad.
Haro worked with the railroad industry for 39 years before he retired in 1983.
Haro currently resides in Benson, where he has had six children, 15 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In the parade, Haro will be riding with his wife, Lucy, and granddaughter Sabrina Widener.
Following the parade, the fun will continue at Lions Park, where the annual water fight between area fire departments and law enforcement will take place. Action starts around 10 a.m.
Entertainment will continue for the rest of the day at Lions Park, with various bands, such local entertainers Exit 303, set to take the stage throughout. Exit 303 will perform around 2:30 p.m.
The nighttime celebration will begin with the patriotic reading at 8:15 p.m., the national anthem at 8:20 p.m. and the fireworks show starts around 8:30 p.m.
