Benson police are investigating a bomb scare in Benson Monday afternoon, after a resident received a prank call while out of town.
Interim Police Chief Paul Moncada said around 1 p.m. a resident living on the 1000 block of Limestone Street received a "strange" phone call.
"The owner of the home was out of town, and received a strange call that someone had placed a bomb under her sink," he said. "She got worried and called us."
Moncada said the homeowner, who was in Tucson at the time, was told to come back to Benson.
In the meantime, Moncada said they sealed off the area, and notified a bomb unit. The unit, from the Department of Public Safety, came from Tucson and a bomb-sniffing dog was brought in from Phoenix.
The home, located in the Meritage Homes subdivision, off State Route 90, was sealed off while the bomb squad inspected the home.
Moncada said nothing was found, and the area was not cleared until around 6 p.m.
Moncada said the prank call took up five hours of time, and any kind of bomb threat is a criminal offense.
Moncada said they will use the information from the incident, investigate, and hopefully bring the culprit to justice.
