Monthly meetings of the Cpl. George Salcido Detachment of the Marine Corps League will be held at VFW Hall, 233 E. 5th St. at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

The St. David Farmers Market is now open every Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October at the St. David School. Now in season, sweet corn, tomatoes, watermelons, green beans and lots of summer produce. Backyard growers with small amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables are welcome to bring a card table for a special vendor rate of $2.

at Democrats' meeting
Penny Kotterman, candidate for Arizona Superintendent of Public Schools, is the main speaker Saturday, July 25 at the Northern Cochise County Democratic Club meeting in Benson. The gathering begins at 10 a.m. in Benson City Council Chambers. Kotterman is past president of the Arizona Education Association, and will share her view on current budget issues.

VFW Post 6271, 233 E. 5th St., is hosting a fundraising dinner Friday, July 24 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Menu includes homemade spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread and salad.

New West School is accepting completed enrollment packets for all K-eighth-grade students for the 2009-10 school year. Registration packets can be picked up at 98 N. Oak Dr. in Mescal and 3225 W. Members of First Baptist Church have published a cookbook from recipes submitted by congregation members.

AARP Driver Safety
Program setting schedule
The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is setting up its summer schedule for the AARP Driver Safety Program (formerly AARP55 Alive/Mature Driving) for the Willcox and Benson areas.
This course is designed for drivers 50 years of age or older, but anyone may attend, and covers all aspects of the effects of aging as it relates to driving and how to compensate for these changes.
Some auto insurance companies, but not all, give a discount for attending this course.
