Texas Canyon rest area work ongoing

Published: Tuesday, July 21, 2009 6:20 PM CDT
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will temporarily close the eastbound Interstate 10 Texas Canyon rest area until Aug. 14, to remove a layer of pavement and repave the parking area.

Drivers should watch for construction trucks entering and exiting the Texas Canyon rest area during this time.

The rest area improvements are a part of the pavement preservation project along eastbound I-10, between Benson and Johnson Road. The work will include removal of the existing pavement and placement of new asphalt concrete. Additional work includes the extension of three box culverts, removing and replacing guardrail, and placing pavement markers and rumble stripes. Project completion is December. The $5.5 million project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed with caution, obey all posted speed limit signs and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
