For what Public Works Director Brad Hamilton called a "violation of personnel policy" Benson City Inspector Jeff Smith has been put on administrative leave.

The paid administrative leave started on July 14. Hamilton said he could not comment on the details of the matter, noting it is a personnel issue.

When asked if he would be terminated, Hamilton would not comment, and would not say how long Smith would remain on leave.

According to city documents, the personnel action form signed by City Manager Glenn Nichols and Smith on July 14 states he is on a "non-disciplinary" suspension.

Smith has been a city employee since May 2005, and his current salary is $19.85 an hour or about $41,000 annually.
