San Pedro Valley High School graduate Amy Logan was killed on Interstate 10 on Sunday night.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) said Logan, 17, was killed in a two-vehicle collision just south of Empirita Road west of Benson just before 9 p.m.
Eyewitness accounts said Logan was driving the wrong way on I-10 Sunday night when the head-on collision occurred.
Logan was driving a Chevrolet sedan east on westbound lanes of traffic. DPS said she crashed into a Jeep SUV occupied by Brittany Huber and Lance Hoff, both 19, according to news reports. Logan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Occupants in the Jeep were transported to Tucson hospitals, and DPS said the extent of their injuries had not yet been released.
Logan recently graduated from San Pedro Valley High School. School Principal Angela Grizzle said she was an excellent student.
"Amy Logan was an all-over wonderful student, and a very good person," Grizzle said. "She was good friends with almost all of the students, and she will be sorely missed."
Grizzle said Logan was on the honor roll all year, and was the only student to make the superintendent's honor roll list from the graduating class. Logan was one of two students in the 2009 class to have perfect attendance, and was the school's January Student of the Month.
