A montly Parkinson's disease support group meeting started July 29 in the St. Timothy Recreation Building at Holy Trinity Monastery in St. David.

Local Appreciation Day, dinner at Turquoise Hills

Turquoise Hills Golf and RV is holding its inaugural Local Appreciation Day Saturday, Aug. 8, with a round of golf with cart on the house. Call 586-7535 for tee times.

A dinner and dance featuring The Partners Music will be held Sunday, Aug. 16, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Turquoise Hills, 800 E. Country Club Dr.

Dinner menu, ordered in advance, includes steak, salmon or chicken with all the trimmings. Cost is $16 per person for dinner and dance, $7 for dance only. Call Rhonda at (520) 289-0689 for reservations.

Marine Corps. League

meeting days changed

Monthly meetings of the Cpl. George Salcido Detachment of the Marine Corps League will be held at VFW Hall, 233 E. 5th St. at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

All retired, reserve or active duty Marines and FMF Corpsmen are invited to attend and join. Anyone interested in supporting Marine Corps ideals can join as an associate member. Call Don Swift at 586-1561 for more information.

VFW Post 6271

fundraising dinner

VFW Post 6271, 233 E. 5th St., is hosting a fundraising dinner Friday, Aug. 7 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Menu includes pork cutlets, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, salad and roll.

Cost is a $6 donation to benefit VFW's color guard. For takeouts or more information, call 586-2197. Public welcome. Sunday bingo starts at 6 p.m. The kitchen opens one hour earlier.

County Amateur Golf

Tournament upcoming

Find out who's the best in Cochise County. Sign up for the Sept. 12, and Sept. 13 Amateurs Golf Tournament open to the first 80 to sign up by Aug. 30.

Action will begin at the San Pedro Golf Course in Benson on Sept. 12 and will continue on Sept. 13 at the Pueblo Del Sol course in Sierra Vista.

Handicap required and proof of Cochise County residency or military proof is required at registration.

The two-day event costs $80 per person and will include cart and range balls.

Tournament proceeds benefit All the Kings Horses Children's Ranch in Benson, which provides a home for abused and neglected kids.

Coordinators are also looking for sponsors of the event.

Half off all month in

Benson Library sale

Books in the sale room of Benson Public Library will cost half of the posted price during the month of August. For example, a hardback book usually priced 50 cents will now be 25 cents.

The sale features magazines, audios, CDs, DVDs and records. The library is located at 300 S. Huachuca St.

New West School

student registration

New West School is accepting completed enrollment packets for all K-eighth-grade students for the 2009-10 school year. Registration packets can be picked up at 98 N. Oak Dr. in Mescal and 3225 W. Navajo Tr. in J-Six or a mailed packet can be requested. Originals or copies of child's birth certificate and shot records required. Space is limited. Call the school office at (520) 586-1976.

Now enrolling K-8 at Visions Unlimited

Benson Eagles set

schedule of activities

The Benson Eagles Aerie No. 3593 will hold its Auxiliary meeting Aug. 17, and its Aerie meeting Aug. 18, at the Aerie, 750 E. 4th St.

Officer's breakfast Sunday, Aug. 9 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Eagles bingo every Wednesday. Kitchen opens at 5 p.m. and card sales start at 5:30 p.m. Early bird play at 6 p.m.

The Friday night fish fry Aug. 7 and Aug. 21. Karaoke Aug. 8 and Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. Birthday bash for the month on Aug. 22. The covered dish supper starts at 4 p.m.

The kidney fund raffle, under way this week, will be for a large barbecue grill. Tickets $1 or six for $5. For more information, call 586-3043.

Thursday night bingo is held at Cochise Terrace RV Resort in Benson. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with early bird game at 6 p.m. Games at 6:30 p.m. Kitchen opens at 5:20 p.m. with games at 6:30 p.m. sharp. Call (520) 586-0600.

Benson Elks to

serve taco dinners

The Benson Elks Lodge will begin serving tacos and all the trimmings on Tuesdays. The complete taco plate will include different entrees and side dishes each week for $6.

Dinners served at the Masonic/Elks Lodge at 623 Foothill Dr., from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Profits benefit Benson's charities.

Wellness health clinic dates in St. David

St. David Wellness & Complementary Health Clinic will offer Reiki (to everyone attending). Then a choice of: (depending on availability of practitioners) massage, life coaching, ear candling, sound therapy, chakra balancing and more, Clinic dates, at Holy Trinity Monastery in St. David will be held Aug. 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free to the public but donations accepted. Bingo Monday at Benson Senior/Community Center

Bingo games are held every Monday at the Benson Senior/Community Center. Card sales from 12:20 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. Each card price of $1.50 includes 12 regular games and the progressive cover-all.

Must be at least 18 to play. Open to the public. The center is located at 705 West Union St., by the city pool.

AARP Driver Safety

Program setting schedule

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is setting up its summer schedule for the AARP Driver Safety Program (formerly AARP55 Alive/Mature Driving) for the Willcox and Benson areas.

This course is designed for drivers 50 years of age or older, but anyone may attend, and covers all aspects of the effects of aging as it relates to driving and how to compensate for these changes.

Some auto insurance companies give a discount for attending this course.

Bible study for women

A women's interdenominational Bible study will meet Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., beginning Sept. 16, at First Baptist Church, 983 S. Ocotillo Ave. Child care available for children age 2-5.

The study is on the book of Daniel with Beth Moore.

Bible study for men and women will begin Monday, Sept. 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
