Golfers sought for tournament

Staff report

With sponsors in place, the San Pedro Golf Course is now seeking competitors for the first-ever Cochise County Amateur Golf Championship tournament to be held in Benson, Saturday, Sept. 12.

The first round will be played Saturday in Benson, and the final round will be at the Pueblo Del Sol Golf Course in Sierra Vista on Sunday, Sept. 13.

To sign up to play, contact Terry Celentano at 586-7314.

There are three divisions in the tournament: the championship for Cochise County, the net flight 50 and under, and the net flight 50 and over division.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the All the Kings Horses Children's Ranch in Benson. Over the last year, the ranch hosted about 100 kids from all over Cochise County for a summer camp.

All year long, the ranch provides refuge in a ranch setting for abused and neglected children who sometimes need long-term care. The children's ranch is a nonprofit organization, and contributions and in-kind donations are tax deductible.

In the future, the children's ranch hopes to grow by building more homes, a chapel and a multi-use building.

Donations and the funds raised from the golf tournament will increase the number of children the ranch can serve and improve services and facilities.

Those already sponsoring the event include Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Power Cooperative, Les Boegemann of the Boegemann Law Firm, Apache Nitrogen Products Inc. and G&F Pizza in Benson.
