Elks hold annual soccer shoot contest in Willcox
Elks Annual Soccer Shoot will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon. Benson Elks, in conjunction with the Willcox Elks Lodge, will be testing different levels of skills at Keiler Park during opening ceremony in Willcox.
A "five goal contest" consists of a series of five goals, decreasing in size from 48 inches to 17 inches. Age groups are divided in two categories, 8 and under for boys and girls 7 years old and under, and 10 and under for 8- and 9- year-olds.
The 8 and under contestants kick from 15 feet, while the 10 and under kick from 18 feet from the goal.
Ages 10-13 will use the grid goal system, using a full-size goal, sectioned off so points can be scored when the ball is kicked into certain sections. The 12 and under group consists of 10- and 11-year-olds and the 14 and under group consists of 12- and 13-year-olds.
The contest is open to both boys and girls and they will shoot separately.
Trophies awarded after competition. Lunch served to contestants. For information contact Rich Regalado at 520-507-8810.
