LDS conference: The St. David Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a conference to reorganize the presidency that serves the nearly 3,000 members in the area. Parkinson's disease

support group meetings

A monthly Parkinson's disease support group meeting is held every fourth Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the St. Timothy Recreation Building at Holy Trinity Monastery in St. David.

VFW Post 6271

fundraising dinner

VFW Post 6271, 233 E. 5th St., is hosting a fundraising dinner Friday, Sept. 4 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Menu includes pork cutlets, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, salad and roll.

Cost is a $6 donation to benefit VFW's color guard. For takeouts or more information, call 586-2197. Public welcome. Sunday bingo starts at 6 p.m. The kitchen for Sunday bingo is closed through Sept. 6.

VFW golf tournament

registration deadline nears

Deadline is Saturday, Sept. 19 to submit entries for the VFW Golf Tournament on Sept. 26 at San Pedro Golf Course, 926 Madison in Benson.

Tournament format is four-person scramble with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Cost is $45 per person and includes golf, cart, meal and prizes, along with [$10,000 hole-in-one contest] compliments of Freedom RV.

Tournament limited to first 36 teams to register and pay. Tournament proceeds benefit VFW AZ National Home for Children, Afghanistan/Iraq Veterans Assistance and the building fund for local Post 6271.

Make checks available to VFW Post 6271 or mail entries to VFW Post 6271, 233 E. 5th St., Benson, AZ 85602. The tournament is advertised as most patriotic, with all players adorned in a patriotic theme. Call 586-2197 for additional information.

Benson Eagles

Benson Eagles Aerie No. 3593 will meet Tuesday, Sept. 15, while the Eagles Auxiliary will meet Monday, Sept. 7 and Sept. 21. Meetings begin at 7 p.m.

Eagles activities include Tuesday night tacos from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday night bingo, kitchen opens at 5 p.m., card sales start at 5:30 p.m. Early bird play at 6 p.m.

Friday fish fry Sept. 4 and Sept. 18, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Sunday and Monday night football weekly beginning Sept. 13. Patio party set Saturday, Sept. 19, and birthday bash Saturday, Sept. 26. The kidney fund raffle for a barbecue grill continues. Check with the Aerie for details, 586-3043.

Benson Tea Party meeting scheduled at Lions Park

A Benson Tea Party meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 7 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Community Food Pantry of Benson new hours posted

Effective Sept. 2, Community Food Pantry of Benson will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Arts council seeks artists' work for public display

The San Pedro River Arts Council, (formerly the Benson Arts Commission), is issuing a call to artists for works on paper only, with a western theme, to be hung in the City Hall Gallery in Benson. Thursday night bingo

at Cochise Terrace

Thursday night bingo is held at Cochise Terrace RV Resort in Benson. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with early bird game at 6 p.m. Games at 6:30 p.m. Kitchen opens at 5:20 p.m. with games at 6:30 p.m. sharp. Call (520) 586-0600.

Benson Elks hold

Tuesday taco dinner

The Benson Elks Lodge will begin serving tacos and all the trimmings on Tuesdays. The complete taco plate will include different entrees and side dishes each week for $6.

Bingo Monday at Benson Senior/Community Center

Bingo games are held every Monday at the Benson Senior/Community Center. Card sales from 12:20 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. Each card price of $1.50 includes 12 regular games and the progressive cover-all.

Must be at least 18 to play. Open to the public. The center is located at 705 West Union St., by the city pool.

Interdenominational

Bible study to begin

A women's interdenominational Bible study will meet Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., beginning Sept. 16, at First Baptist Church, 983 S. Ocotillo Ave. Child care available for children age 2-5.

Study is on the book of Daniel with Beth Moore.

Bible study for men and women will begin Monday, Sept. 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. There is no child care available during this study group. Classes for women and children will begin Wednesday, Sept. 16. Nursery available for babies, and preschool-age children 2 to 5, with monitored study room for home-schooled students.

to move to new location

Southeastern Arizona Community Action in Benson will have a new location. It will be located at 120 W. 6th St., from the current 705 W. Union St. address.

Round dancing lessons

at Cochise Terrace RV

Easy level round dancing is coming to Benson: Lessons are being offered on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Cochise Terrace RV Resort, one mile south of exit 302 off I-10 on Route 90 in Benson on the west side of the highway.

Willow Lakes women's non-denominational Bible study will be held weekly on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the clubhouse, 2125 W. Vista Dr.

Critter Sitters is forming the following classes: Introduction to agility to be held on Saturday Sept. 12 at 8 a.m. Jump, tunnels, and some contact obstacles will be covered.

City pool open through Sept., dive-in movie set

The City Pool will remain open Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for open swim as well as continue regular adult swim hours through September, weather permitting.

The Parks and Recreation Department will host a LaborDay Weekend End of Summer Party with free swimming on Saturday, Sept. 5 and the last dive-in movie of the summer will begin at 7:30 p.m. Gates open at 7 p.m. Cost for the movie is regular pool admission. On Labor Day, Sept. 7, there will be free swimming, music, prizes, free hot dogs and more.

Benson Lions Club all-you-can-eat pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee, tea and juice breakfast from will be held Sunday, Sept. 6, from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the club, 599 S. Dragoon St.

FOE craft/swap meet

Mother Earth Yarn

at Art & Quilting Gallery

Mother Earth Yarn will be consigning at the Art & Quilting Gallery annex of the San Pedro Arts and Historical Society, 267 E. 5th St., No. 2. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in September. The gallery offers classes catered toward the community's desires the third Thursday of each month beginning Oct. 15, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
