Visiting St. David kept its unbeaten streak intact at 5-0 Friday, trouncing the Patagonia Lobos 67-8 in Class 1A football.
The Tigers had little difficulty, leading 20-0 midway through the first quarter and scoring two of those touchdowns within a two-minute span, en route to a 33-0 lead after the first quarter.
Dallon Murray put the Tigers on the board 30 seconds into the game on a 20-yard run with Tyler Davis adding the PAT kick for the quick 7-0 lead. After the St. David defense held Patagonia on its initial possession, Nathan Mayberry returned a punt 45-yards for the touchdown with 10:11 left in the first quarter to give the Tigers a 13-0 advantage. The Lobos blocked the Tigers' PAT kick attempt.
The Tigers scored again with 8:24 left in the first quarter on a 15-yard run by Braden Murray but missed the PAT kick. The final two scores of the quarter came on a 34-yard pass completion from quarterback Tyler Davis to Jordan Tracey, and on a 19-yard strike from Davis to Preston Goodman. Davis added each PAT kick for the commanding lead at the end of the first quarter.
St. David added 20 second-quarter points to lead 53-0 at the half with Jeremy Gillette scoring on a 9-yard run, Davis on a 15-yard run, and Goodman on a 35-yard punt return. Davis added a pair of PAT kicks as the Lobos blocked one attempt.
St. David's bench saw plenty of playing time with nine different players scoring. Each team went on to score eight points in the third quarter with the Tigers adding another 6 in the fourth.
The Lobos got on the scoreboard with 9:20 remaining in the third quarter on a 35-yard run and converted the 2-point PAT.
Paul Kartchner scored for the Tigers on a 55-yard pass from freshman quarterback Shane Bradford with Braden Murray scoring the PAT run. Bradford would score the Tigers' final touchdown on a 65-yard fumble recovery with that PAT run attempt stopped short to cap the scoring.
Bradford led the Tigers' ground gainers rushing for 63 yards on 2 carries. Davis, meanwhile completed 3-of-4 pass attempts for 93 yards and a pair of TDs. Foreign exchange students Nat Pongprayoon, a native of Thailand, and Amp Tsai of Taiwan, both new to American football, each logged carries for 3 and 2 yards respectively.
The Tigers accumulated 396 yards in total offense. They travel to Tanque Verde Friday for a 4 p.m. game.
