Harvest Festival
at Calvary St. David
Calvary St. David, 15 W. Merrill Dr., is hosting its Annual Harvest Festival Saturday, Oct. 31 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., featuring Bobbie the clown, jumping castle, food and games for the whole family.
Donations of non-perishable canned goods will be accepted and will benefit the local food bank.
St. David Booster
Club seeks donations
The St. David Booster Club is seeking donations to help with purchase of food items to provide lunch for participants in the Fall 2009 Volleyball Tournament scheduled Oct. 24 at the St. David High School gym.
All fundraiser proceeds benefit St. David School's athletic programs. Contact Booster Club Vice President Celia Bernal at (520) 405-6757 or the school office at 720-4781 by Oct. 21 if you're able to offer a donation.
Gathering of Artists and Friends upcoming Oct. 24
The San Pedro River Arts Council and the Gallery of Dreams present the third annual Gathering of Artists and Friends. This free, outdoor event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, in St. David at the Gallery of Dreams on Hwy. 80, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Visual artists and craftspeople from throughout the area will be displaying work to look at, and for sale. Food provided by St. David culinary students with music by Contra Swings.
This year there will be a silent auction, allowing for bids on artist-donated works of art.

The St. David Farmers Market is open every Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beneath the solar ramada at St. David School.

lessons for beginners
Interested parents may sign their children up for five horseback riding lessons offered by Debbie Miller, a retired horse trainer.
Children must be at least 5 and know their left from their right. Classes are aimed for beginners. Riders must be wearing full-length jeans or sweats and shoes or boots that will not fall off. Helmets provided. Parent or guardian must be present during each lesson.

A rabies clinic will be held Saturday, Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. to noon by Dr. Nancy Leverenz at All Creatures Veterinary Clinic, 644 E. 4th St. Cost is $20. State law requires all dogs over 3 months must be vaccinated against rabies by state licensed veterinarian. All dogs must be on leash and cats in carriers. Bible class at Bethlehem Orthodox Lutheran Church
Vicar Jonathan Loescher will be leading a Bible Class entitled "Pointing to the Cross."
The 10-week class is under way. Anyone may join at any time. Bethlehem Orthodox Lutheran Church is located south of Union on Duane St. and High St., by the cemetery.

Alvarez to speak at Democratic Club meeting
The Northern Cochise County Democratic Club will meet at the TA Truck Stop in Willcox on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. Guest speaker will be state Sen. Manny Alvarez, who will discuss latest developments at the Legislature. Refreshments served and public welcome.
Mescal-J6 Fire District
seeks volunteers to serve
The Mescal-J6 Fire District is seeking volunteers to serve on the following committees: Budget, legal and insurance, and policy and bylaws.
The Budget Committee presents a proposed annual budget to the board, recommends the hiring of a CPA, and reviews large expenditures not included on the current adopted budget.
The Legal and Insurance Committee advises the board on legislative, legal, and insurance matters, and review any matters referred to them by the Policy and By-Laws Committee. Members with insurance or legal backgrounds preferred.
The Policy and Bylaws Committee reviews the district's board policy and bylaws at least once a year. All proposed changes to those documents are submitted to the board by this committee.
The time commitment is two to three hours per month. Committee members must reside in or own property in the district, and are appointed as individuals, not as members of any organization or group.
