Benson girls win cross-country title

Benson Middle School's girls won the CAC cross country championships for the third year in a row, last week.
Benson won with 39 points, followed by Coronado with 40, Smith with 46 and Huachuca City 112.
Marae Mattice took second overall, followed by Tina Dukes in fourth and Natalie Bae in fifth.
Jamie Dukes and Victoria Wilharm composed the remaining top five members of the team.
The team will only lose 8th-grader Jamie Dukes and will come back strong to seek a fourth straight title next year.
For the boys, eighth grader Andrew Gulliams from Benson won the individual championship title while the team took third place overall.
The top five runners for Benson were Guilliams, Liam Spinney, Sal Cope, Steven Barrera and Frankie Ruiz.
Benson had three of the top 10 runners and improved their standings all year.
Besides the Benson boys' team finishing third overall with 72 points, other San Pedro Valley teams also did well.
St. David came in second place with 54 points and Pomerene had 173.
