The St. David girls' volleyball team is the 1A South Region champion.
The Lady Tigers earned the title for the third consecutive year last week, defeating Tanque Verde and St. Gregory, to finish with an 18-1 season record.
With the regular season goal accomplished, the Lady Tigers hope to go deep into the post season and win a 1A State title, despite tough teams like Joseph City waiting in the wings.
To get to state, the Lady Tigers first had to finish off two remaining opponents in the regular season.
Last week, they defeated Tanque Verde 3-0, winning 25-12, 25-6 and 25-10.
Sheradee Lee led the victory with 31 points, 2 aces, 14 assists and served a perfect 31 of 31.
"I think we have come a long ways from where we were. We had a few rough times and many injuries, but everyone made us stronger. I think that we have a high chance at making it far," said Kayla Carpenter.
In the second game of the week, the Lady Tigers took down St. Gregory 3-0, winning 25-20, 25-8 and 25-16.
Kaydee McWhorter led the victory with 22 points, 2 aces, 2 kills, 19 assists and 2 digs.
Kayla Vargas had 13 kills in the contest.
After the victories, Amorette Jacquez said, "At the beginning of the year something was missing, but through hard work as a team, we have all come together. Now it's time for us to take state."
Post season action begins this week.
