Celebration rehearsals
San Pedro Valley Interdenominational Community Christmas Celebration will be held Sunday, Dec. 13 at the Pomerene stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Pomerene Road.

School graduation Dec. 17
San Pedro Valley High School will recognize its December 2009 graduates during the semi-annual Graduation Ceremony & Recognition Night Thursday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m. at Cochise College, Benson Center.
Kristy Reynolds, Grades 7-12 School Social Counselor will deliver the keynote address, with Stephanie Clayton, student speaker. A staff speaker has yet to be determined.
Graduates include Leanna Barlow, Evan Bowen, Kalvin Catlin, Stephanie Clayton, Josh Hippensteel, C.J. Johnson, David Merten, Luis Meza, Levi Ramirez, Shalena Solis, Ashley Stapleton.
Students of the month, Kalvin Catlin, August; Alysha Pirtle, September; along with October, November, and December Students of the Month (TBD).Students on the Honor Roll, with exemplary attendance, and students who have passed the AIMS test, will be recognized as well.

VFW Post 6271, 233 E. 5th St., is hosting its fundraising dinner on Friday, Dec. 4, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Post Hall, 233 E. 5th St. Menu includes homemade lasagna, salad and garlic bread. Cost is a $6 donation. For takeouts or more information, call 586-2197. Public welcome. Sunday bingo at 6 p.m., kitchen opens one hour prior.
Elks dinners feature
wintertime favorites
For the winter months, the menu for the Elks Tuesday dinners will include wintertime, fireside, warming favorites like chili and cornbread, homemade soups and salads and stews. These dinners include soft drink, iced tea or coffee. The $6 donation also includes dessert.
Dinners are held each Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the at the Elks/Masonic Lodge, 623 Foothill Dr. in Benson.

The San Pedro River Arts Council will be hosting an art show entitled "Art is Ageless," in conjunction with Christmas on Main St. in Benson. Primary and middle schoolers through the eighth grade have been invited, with those young at heart to also display their work. There is no fee and no jury. The show is for one day only, Dec. 12, and will be in the large building at 500 Highway 80, on the corner of 7th St. in Benson. Fair upcoming Dec. 5-6
The 29th Annual Cascabel Community Fair will be held Saturday, Dec. 5 and Sunday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are three very different sites all within pleasant walking distance. The Oasis Bird Sanctuary Sanctuary conducts scheduled tours of their exotic birds and sells products that support animal rescue efforts. Akasha Center of Light offers original paintings and unique Christmas decorations by the resident artist. Cascabel Clayworks will have an open house and studio pottery sale. Joining them will be many other artisans displaying their work in fiber, wood, jewelry, clay, leather, photography and more. Also visit Forever Home Donkey Rescue.

Northern Cochise County Democrats meet Saturday
The Northern Cochise County Democratic Club will hold its last meeting of 2009 on Dec. 5 at the Benson City Council Chambers, 120 W. 6th St.

American Legion Auxiliary
support group meetings
American Legion Auxiliary will have a booth at Christmas on Main Street Saturday, Dec. 12, and will be selling Christmas wreaths decorated with poppies.
Auxiliary members will explain the origin and significance of the poppy made by disabled veterans.
Proceeds will be used to mail boxes of goodies/personal items to troops abroad. In the last three years, the Auxiliary has mailed more than 400 boxes.
