Benson City Magistrate Joe Knoblock set a $500,000 bond last week for Bisbee resident Lance Lemke, who was arrested and charged with nine felony drug counts.

Lemke, 48, was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over by the Benson Police Department in a routine stop.

Riggs, the department's K-9 unit, sniffed the vehicle and alerted. After searching the vehicle, police found drug paraphernalia.

Lemke was arrested, and during a search at the police department, officers found 37 grams of meth hidden inside his waistband.

Lemke has been charged with possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drugs for sale, transportation of dangerous drugs, transportation of dangerous drugs for sale, narcotic drug violation, possession of marijuana, the manufacturing and distribution of a controlled substance, contraband in jail, promoting prison contraband and conspiracy.

On Jan. 12, Benson police also arrested Lemke's son, Chris. The 27-year-old was also charged with numerous felony drug counts.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety also made a drug arrest last week, taking undocumented immigrant Luis Enrique Lucero-Rodriguez into custody. He was stopped on State Route 90, around mile post 299. After initially slowing down, the police account states Lucero-Rodriguez allegedly fled from the vehicle.

He was tracked several miles away from the vehicle, but footprints taken at the scene match the shoes worn by the defendant.

In searching the vehicle, the patrolman found 213 pounds of marijuana.

After being charged with three felony drug counts, Knoblock ordered Lucero-Rodriguez held without bond, following Arizona Revised Statutes for undocumented immigrants.
