New members: Benson Hospital Auxiliary welcomed eight new members to its organization. The auxiliary regularly holds bake sales to raise funds, staffs the hospital gift shop, while providing informational and support services for patients, visitors and the public. Join church stitchers; help make prayer quilts

The St. Raphael Episcopal/ Lutheran Church stitchers make comfort and prayer quilts when they meet the last Monday of every month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Benson Museum Art and Quilt Gallery - the yellow building behind the museum.

Anyone who is interested in helping with the ministry is welcome. For more information about the prayer quilts or to join, call Laddie at 586-0090.

VFW fundraising


dinner on Friday

VFW Post 6271, 233 E. 5th St., is holding its weekly Friday [March 19] fundraising dinner from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., serving mesquite grilled steak, baked potato, vegetable, salad and garlic bread. Cost is $8.

For takeout or more information call 586-2197. VFW also holds Sunday bingo at 6 p.m. Kitchen opens an hour prior.

Dog license late fee to be

assessed effective April 1

City police and animal control division remind pet owners beginning April 1, a late fee will be charged for a 2010 dog license. The state requires all dogs 3 months and older to have rabies shots. Proof of vaccination is required for purchase of the license.

A rabies clinic will be held Saturday, March 27, 9 a.m. to noon, at All Creatures Veterinarian Clinic, 955 E. 4th St. Cost for the shot is $20. City dog licenses will be available for purchase for pet owners residing within city limits.

Potato bake dinner at SPV United Methodist

A "potato bake dinner" will be held Tuesday, March 23 at San Pedro Valley United Methodist Church, 636 S. Hwy 80.Cost is $7 adults, $3 children 10 and under.

Silent auction will also be held.

Critter Sitters' March classes announced

Critter Sitters is forming the following classes for March: Control unleashed on Saturday, March 20 at 8 a.m. Basic Obedience starts on Saturday, March 20 at 9:30 a.m. This class is also a six-week course. Sit, down, stay, come, loose-leash walking and more will be covered.

Heel begins Saturday, March 27 at 11 a.m. and fine tunes the loose leash walk through distractions and patterns. For fee and other information, call Megan at (520) 212-2233.

Benson Park & Swap held each Saturday

The Benson Park & Swap will be held Saturday, March 20. Setup fee is $5 and two cans of food for the Food Bank.

dancing held Tuesdays

Modern western square dancing will be held every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Benson Senior/Community Center, 705 W. Union St. Call 720-6044 for details.

Bingo Monday

at Senior Center

Bingo games are held every Monday at the Benson Senior/Community Center, 705 W. Union St. Card sales from 12:20 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. Card price of $1.50 includes 12 regular games and progressive cover-all. Must be 18 to play.

Cochise Terrace RV

hosts Thursday Bingo

Bingo Thursday night in the barn at Cochise Terrace RV Resort, 1030 S. Barrel Cactus Ridge. Food concession serving begins at 5:30 p.m., bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. Call 586-0600.

Benson Elks resume

their Tuesday dinners

Benson Elks will be serving dinners each Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Elks/Masonic Lodge, 623 Foothill Drive.

Benson Lions Club all-you-can-eat breakfast

Benson Lions Club all-you-can-eat pancake, eggs, bacon, coffee, tea and juice breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the club 599 S. Dragoon St., on Sunday, March 21.

Lions bingo held on Friday nights. Kitchen open from 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Early- bird games begin at 6:30 p.m.

Knitting, 'chicken doll'

classes at quilt gallery

Classes in knitting and "chicken doll" will be held this and next month at Benson Museum's Art and Quilt Gallery, 267 E. 5th St.

Knitting, on March 27, will consist of a "cable and color" class from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Saturday, April 10 and April 17, there will be a "chicken doll" class. Stop by the gallery to see their chicken on display. Call 586-9313 for all class information.

Elks to install officers

The Benson Elks Lodge will install officers for the year 2010-2011 on Sunday, March 28 at the Elks/Masonic Lodge on Foothill Drive in Benson at 3 p.m. The event is open to the public. A prime rib or salmon dinner will be served following the ceremony at San Pedro Golf Course Ironwood Grill on Madison Street in Benson. Cost of the dinner is $12.50 each and must be pre-paid. Reservations must be made by contacting the club secretary at (520) 586-6162.

Vacation Bible School scheduled March 16-19

San Pedro Valley United Methodist Church is holding Vacation Bible School through, Friday, March 19. Class is titled "A cosmic adventure praising God." Call 586-3611 for more information.

Head Start applications

Child-Parent Centers is taking applications for head start and early head start for children born between Sept. 1, 2006 and Aug. 31, 2007. There are also services for families with pregnant women and children from birth up to 4 years of age at the Head Start Center on Union Street. For information call (520) 586-7174.

Holy Trinity Monastery in St. David offers pecan goodies made from scratch in Benedict's Bakery every Friday, 10 a.m. to noon, through March.

Learn to trace your roots at genealogy workshop

A workshop titled "Genealogy for beginners" will be held Saturday, March 27 in the book-sale room at Benson Public Library from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

There is no charge for the basic-level class, but space is limited to 10 students. Students are asked to bring pencil, ancestor information and "curiosity."

Anita Chadwick Beno and Betsy Phillips Jones are the instructors.

The workshop is result of a collaborative effort on behalf of Benson Public Library and the Cochise Stronghold Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Interdenominational Bible study class forming

Young adult interdenominational Bible study for persons 16 to 25 years of age will begin Wednesday, April 14 at Community Bible Church in J-Six. Join in for "light supper and fellowship" at 6 p.m., the hour-long study begins at 7 p.m.

Public invited to Friday

'tea parties on the corner'

The public is invited to tea parties on the corner each Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Prickly Pear and 4th streets. Participants are invited to wear patriotic colors or display flags.

Monthly film upcoming

at senior/community center

"Storm" this month's featured movie will be showing at the Benson Community Center on Friday, March 19 at 1:00 pm. This movie has not yet been rated and is not recommended for ages under 17.

Dallas Memorial Hope Fund yard sale scheduled

The Dallas Memorial Hope Fund is holding a community yard sale at Benson Animal Hospital, 1195 S. Hwy. 80, Saturday, April 10 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations can be dropped off at the clinic.
