Bernice Marie Streit, 87, passed away to heaven on March 10, 2010 at Hacienda Rehabilitation and Care Center in Sierra Vista. She lived in Benson from 1986 until 2007.

She was born in Canfield, Ohio, Aug. 24, 1922, to Deweese and Lena Greasel Paulin. She received Jesus Christ as her Savior as a child. She attended Moody Bible Institute after high school, training to be a missionary. Because of poor health she did not become a foreign missionary, but shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ, giving out tracts, teaching Sunday School, attending Bible studies and various churches, including First Baptist Church, Benson Church of Our Savior and Shiloh Christian Ministries. She was involved with World Missionary Press at its beginning.

Bernice met Howard Streit in Oregon and married in May 1947. They had no children, but she loved working as a babysitter and practical nurse in Colorado before retiring and moving to Benson.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Wilma Leonard and Dora Yeager; niece Karen Reed; and husband, Howard L. Streit, who earned four Bronze Stars during World War II.

She is survived by her sister Mary White, of Hopedale, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Don White, Norman Leonard and Myron Yeager; nieces, Janet Stanwood and Pam Dulkoski; nephews, Howard Yeager, David White and Dale Leonard; numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are pending.

Any memorial contributions can be made to Shiloh Christian Ministries of Sierra Vista or Hacienda Rehabilitation Center.
