Vote down proposed 1 cent sales-tax hike

Published: Tuesday, March 16, 2010 6:18 PM CDT
Sounds like Gov. Brewer's trip was only to get votes for her tax increase. I personally advise all to vote down any tax increase until all of Phoenix puts a little hurt on themselves.

All department heads including the governor have "mouth pieces" who talk to the press for them. These people pull down very large salaries. I'm sure there are lots of other areas that could be cut, but they - Phoenix - won't cut their own personal budgets and only want to hurt the little people, us. And our wonderful Legislature cannot pass a budget for our great state while waisting time on useless stuff. If, when I was working, did the job all of Phoenix is doing, I would have been fired immediately if not sooner.

" Well lucky for him to be in a position to not need the tax. But as a state worker that has lived HERE in Benson all my life, we are the ones that will get hurt. I have seen people lose their jobs here in Benson, Sierra Vista, and Willcox because of the state budget problems. We have been forced to take furlough days, and will be forced to take them again. Plus we are going to have to take a paycut. (Trust me, the people at your local DES offices are not pulling in the big bucks) So it's not just Phoenix, this affects everyone trying to make a living and provide for thier families. Sorry but I have to be for the $0.01 cent sales tax. I'm sorry but it's not that much to pay so people (right here in our community) can keep thier jobs, homes, health benefits and self respect so that they can provide for thier families. "

" A good conscience forces us to vote for the tax. Our Republican representatives give away too much of our tax dollars to rich people -- 37% of last $1.6 Billion (yes, that's Billion, with a "B") went to the richest 1% of Arizonans, , and $52 million a year to pay for rich people's private school tuitions -- and thus we can't pay for our schools and we can't pay for state jobs that regular people need. If our leaders would stop giving away all our money to already rich people and to big tax breaks for corporations, we could afford to keep state employees, and afford to keep our schools fully staffed. Our neighbors will lose their jobs unless we vote for this tax. The way to solve this problem permanently is to vote for Democrats who won't give away all our money to people who don't need it. "

" wow phil hit it on the head.when obama said lets do the penny hike on drinks like soda that are not good for you people cried and whined and had commercials where a lady said i cant afford to feed my family if obama has his way.yet brewer says it and most people are like ok.it doesnt make sense when most people do not have a problem with taxing vices like beer and cigs but soda which is very bad and contributes to obesity is a valued food commodity when obama says lets tax it but not when brewer says this may be our only way to raise money...
