The Benson High School track and field teams competed at home for the first time this season on Friday. This was their second meet of the year, taking part in the Ted James/Douglas invitational on March 4.

"We have many experienced upper class athletes who performed well, but a big percentage of our girls' team are freshmen and sophomores. I believed that we could place well but with the results of this meet, I can see our girls continuing to get stronger and stronger ... and who knows how many personal records they will continue to break this year. This was an excellent job from all of our girls!"

The Bobcat boys' team finished the meet fourth overall of the 10 teams competing. Empire took first-place with 126.5 followed by Tombstone with 115.5, Willcox with 86, Benson with 43, Bisbee with 35, Morenci and Thatcher with 34, Desert Christian with 24, and St. David with 16.

"Our boys' team did very well in the meet, finishing third to our conference teams," Lamb said. "Every meet they continue to get stronger. Most of our boys earned personal best times, jumps, and throws in this meet. Look to our boys' team to continue moving up in the conference ranks over the next few weeks."
