Cox cable customers to pay more for service

Cox customers across the state will soon be paying more for their television service. But only Sierra Vista area customers will be paying more for Internet access when rates increase next month.
"About 60 percent of customers will see an increase in their monthly bill throughout Arizona," said Michael Dunne, Cox media relations director for Southern Arizona.
The rate hike for most Cox TV packages is due to higher operational and programming costs, Dunne said.
This change will affect Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca TV customers the same as those elsewhere in Arizona. However, the rate increase for Cox high-speed Internet service is unique to this area.
"Prices are being adjusted to match the rest of the state," said Tim Cervantes, local director of systems operations.
When the cable and Internet provider updated its system in the area last year with features like high-definition channels and on-demand options, prices were not adjusted to reflect these new services, Cervantes said.
Now, these new rates are being introduced to coincide with the rise in TV service costs.
"Now all the prices are being adjusted and aligned," he said.
Of the three tiers of Internet service, the lowest, called the Lite tier, will have the greatest in-crease, from $14.95 to $19.99 per month. This tier will also see a significant speed increase, whereas the other two will not. The Essential and Preferred tiers will cost an additional $3 and $2, respectively.
Customers whose monthly bill will be affected by these changes will receive a letter in the coming days further explaining the increase, Dunne said.
