Justice of the Peace Joe Knoblock set a $500,000 bond for Willcox resident Brice Darrell Dorwood Monday morning, after the 21-year old was charged with five felonies, including possession of a deadly weapon.

Dorwood was pulled over for a routine traffic violation by the Benson police, and after admitting to being on probation, agreed to allow the officer to search his vehicle.

According to the court record, Dorwood allegedly withdrew his permission, requiring the officer to call in a K-9 unit to search the car.

After the K-9 alerted to the car, police found a "moderate size bag" of marijuana in the rear seat. In searching the trunk, the officer also found a ballistics vest and a 9 mm pistol with a live round in the chamber and a magazine containing 10 rounds.

Dorwood was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony, prohibited possessor of a weapon, misconduct body armor, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A preliminary hearing is set in Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 court, in Benson, Aug. 5, at 9 a.m.
