Military: Army Sgt. Adam T. Free

Army Sgt. Adam T. Free has been awarded the Expert Field Medical Badge, the Army's highest non-combat proficiency award to medical career specialists.

The badge is presented to soldier medics who attain a high degree of professional skill and proficiency as a field medic. It rewards individuals who can expertly perform common soldier tasks and medical tasks in asimulated combat environment.

Recipients are tested in three basic areas, which include physical conditioning, written examination, and a field performance test. During the hands-on portion of the test, the soldier completed a 12-mile road march carrying a patient strapped to a litter through an obstacle course, and courses in CPR, weapons qualification, survival, and emergency medical treatment.

Free is an emergency care sergeant/combat me-dic assigned to the 172nd Infantry Brigade at Grafenwoehr Training Area, Germany.


The sergeant has served in the military for eight years.

He is the son of William C. and Victoria L. Free of Benson. His wife, Cassandra, is the daughter of Douglas Stinger of Safford.

The sergeant is a 2002 graduate of Ray District High School, Kearny, Ariz.
