Gov. Jan Brewer easily won the Republican primary last week and will now face Democrat Terry Goddard for the state's top position in November.

With 478,819 votes, Brewer defeated Matthew Jette, Dean Martin and Buz Mills with 81.53 percent of the total votes cast.

Goddard ran unopposed in the primary election.

In the state's attorney general race, the Republican race remains too close to call.

On Monday, Tom Horne led opponent Andrew Thomas by 887 votes, with 900 votes left to count.

Matthew Benson, director of communications for the Arizona Secretary of State, said a recount will be triggered if the margin of difference between the top two candidates is less than or equal to 200 votes.

The Democratic side of the race is also close, with Felicia Rotellini garnering 120,205 votes to David Lujan's 117,788.

Of the more than 3 million registered voters in Arizona, 933,212 voted in the Aug. 24 primary, or 30.08 percent.

Other state races in the general election are for secretary of state, state mine inspector, superintendent of public instruction and state treasurer.

In the big race for the U.S. Senate, John McCain easily defeated Republican opponent J.D. Hayworth in the primary.

McCain will face Democrat Rodney Glassman, a former Tucson City Councilman, in the general election.

" Those who watched the governor candidate debates on PBS last Wednesday should be very afraid. If SB1070 fails Brewer has absolutely nothing to fall back on. Her answer to every question was SB1070. She often stuttered, got mad and looked like a deer in the headlights when ask a question. She had NO answer other then SB1070 when ask about schools, unemployment, state budget, prisons, foreclosures or taxes. Let us all pray SB1070 will work the magic it promises, because Brewer does not appear to have anything else. "

" It is easy to see why she will not debate anyone again. I was ashamed for her and the people of Arizona. When she did speak it was only to insult the others or be sarcastic. She made a fool out of herself. Is she on drugs? "
