Art show on display at City Hall Gallery through Oct.

The new art show at the City Hall Gallery is called "Stage West; New and Old Visions of the American West."

This show, sponsored by the San Pedro River Arts Council, is on display through October. The gallery is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and will be manned by one of the artists whose work is on the wall.

If you'd like to stay and chat with that artist about his or her work, or would like to know more, stop by Saturdays for "Art Talk."

Senior property valuation freeze deadline nears

Application filing deadline for the senior property valuation freeze option is today, Wednesday, Sept. 1.

This allows property valuation of a primary home to be frozen for three years, and may remain frozen as long as the homeowner re-qualifies every three years.

Homeowners must be 65, lived in the home a minimum of two years, and home owner's annual total income must be below $32,352 for single owner or $40,440 if two or more owners. Income based on total income from all sources, taxable and non-taxable, and must include all owners on the property title. Application must be made on the Department of Revenue form DOR 82104. Forms available from the County Assessor's Office. Call the Cochise County Assessors Office at (520) 432-8650.

DNA paternity testing at County Health Dept.

The Cochise County Health Department is now offering DNA paternity testing at all five locations and has joined with the DNA Diagnostics Center (DDC), known for trustworthy, confidential and accurate results.

Clinics will be offering DNA paternity testing during all normal business hours.

In Benson, the service is offered each Tuesday and Thursday and on alternating Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the county health department at 126 W. 5th St.

Benson Area Food Bank's child-box program ongoing

The Benson Area Food Bank will continue the child food-box program although the state of Arizona funding stopped on June 30. The board of directors has voted to continue it as long as local funding supports it. In addition to the current child food box contents, peanut butter and jelly will be added for boxes for families with children age 3-5. One gallon of milk will be added to food boxes of qualified families for older children ages 6 through 17.

VFW fundraising

dinner on Friday

VFW Post 6271, 233 E. 5th St., is holding its weekly Friday, [Sept. 3] fundraising dinner from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., serving sweet and sour pork over rice, vegetable, salad and roll. Cost is $7, public welcome.

For takeout or more information call 586-2197. VFW bingo hours have changed. Sunday Bingo is now held at 2 p.m. Kitchen closed for summer.

American Legion sets

Sept. 9 meeting at VFW

American Legion Post 45 Vicente Manzo will meet on the second Thursday of the month, Sept. 9, at the VFW on 5th Street at 6:30 p.m. Contact American Legion Commander Frank Taticek by calling 586-7273.

Fraternal Order of

Eagles' activities posted

The Eagles' Auxiliary meets on the first and third Mondays with the Aeries meeting on the first and third Tuesdays. Trustees also meet every Tuesday. There are also tacos on Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., bingo on Wednesday at 6 p.m., cards sold at 5:30 p.m. The kitchen is open at 5 p.m. for bingo. Fish frys resume Friday, Sept. 3 and held every other Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Bingo set for Sept. start at Cochise Terrace RV Resort

The first session of Bingo at Cochise Terrace RV Resort will begin on Thursday, Sept. 2, and will be held each Thursday thereafter till further notice. The snack bar will open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo will start at 6:30 p.m.

Elks host Annual

Soccer Shoot in Willcox

Elks Annual Soccer Shoot will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon. Benson Elks Lodge, in conjunction with the Willcox Elks, will be testing different levels of skills at Keiler Park in Willcox during opening ceremonies of soccer season.

A five goal contest consists of a series of goals, decreasing in size from 48 inches to 17 inches. Age groups are divided in two categories, boys and girls 7 years old and under, and 8- and 9-year olds. The 7 and under contestants kick from 15 feet, while the 8-9-year-olds kick from 18 feet from the goal.

Ages 10-13 will use the grid goal system, using a full-size goal, sectioned off so points can be scored when the ball is kicked into certain sections. The 12 and under group consists of 10- and 11-year-olds and the 13 and under group consists of 12- and 13-year-olds.

The contest is open to boys and girls and they will shoot and score separately. Awards given after competition and lunch will be served to all contestants For information contact Rich Regalado in Willcox at 520-507-8810 or Benson representative Jerry Pollard at 520-586-6162.

Oct. 2 at Farmers Market

The inaugural St. David Farmers Market Livestock Roundup will be held Saturday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon. Join in for a day of swapping, selling, buying and special events.

The event also features li'l cowboy/cowgirl skill competitions, stick horse barrel race, dummy steer roping, goat ribbon relay race, live music, food, refreshments, produce vendors, hand crafted items and more.

Trader fees: Large animal (equine, bovine) $10 each. Medium animal (goat, sheep, swine) $10 per pen. Small critter (chickens, rabbits, cage birds, other assorted small animals) $5 per coop/cage and farm/ranch equipment: $5 per seller. No canines/felines - school rules. Lions hold monthly

all-you-can-eat breakfast

Benson Lions Club all-you-can-eat pancake, eggs, bacon, coffee, tea and juice breakfast, will be held Sunday, Sept. 5, 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Lions Club, 599 S. Dragoon St.

The Lions Club holds bingo every Friday night. Kitchen open 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Early bird games begin at 6:30 p.m.

Critter Sitters forming Sept. obedience classes

Critter Sitters is now forming the following classes for September: There will be a Really Reliable Recall class starting Friday, Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. This class works just on recall even with distractions.

Intermediate obedience will start Saturday, Sept. 18 at 8 a.m. This class will cover longer stays, out-of-sight stays and recalls, and many more distractions for your dog.

A basic obedience class, also on Saturday, begins at 9:30 a.m., introducing dogs to basic commands sit, down, come, stay and more.

Open-face meatloaf sandwich lunch today at VFW

Wednesday lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Benson VFW, 255 E. 5th St. Cost is $3.50 per plate.

The inaugural lunch Sept. 1 features open-faced meatloaf sandwich, grilled fruit and green salad.
