No place in Benson for cowardly politics
Fortunately voters have more sense than to be swayed by smear campaigns, but now that the Republican primary election for JP-3 is over, we have to comment on the anonymous letters and flyers left all over town.
The one we got was printed on blue paper and its entire intent is to smear incumbent Joe Knoblock. It includes no facts, but rather is a list of questions. Just by posing the questions, the author hopes that readers will jump to the conclusion that the answer is bad. This is just plain wrong on a lot of levels.
In the first place, the veiled accusations are anonymous. If you have facts about a candidate that other voters should know, why not disclose them honestly yourself? In this case, the answer is obvious - the author of this scurrilous document had no facts so depended on innuendo instead.
This is the same kind of cowardly individual who, faced with an interpersonal problem, immediately turns to gossip and innuendo rather than confronting the other person and talking it out. We can't stand this kind of person in our daily lives. Why would we listen to anything they have to say when it comes to an election?
In the second place, because the piece is anonymous, Knoblock had no way of responding to it. He could only hope that voters had sense enough to see through it for what it is.
Virgil Judd, who will meet Knoblock in the November election along with Democrat Marv Sorensen, was appalled by what he called "slanderous letters." In a letter to this newspaper last week he wrote, "I would like to think that local elections are won or lost based on the qualifications, merit and core values of the candidates. I urge anyone with strong feelings and views one way or another to express themselves in the voting booth."
We couldn't agree more. This kind of dirty trick is the reason more qualified candidates don't present themselves for election. As we head toward November, we hope the author of this disgusting collection of innuendos will think better of it and desist.
And if you are approached by someone handing out anonymous slander about any candidate, call them by their proper name: coward.

" This is rich.
I'm not getting it. "because the piece is anonymous, Knoblock had no way of responding to it."
This is some sort of reason that Knoblock can't possibly be asked or answer the questions?
So ask the man, fact check and do an article .
The taxpayers deserve to know who sits in judgement of them. "

" My comment is not about Knoblock or the writter of this letter but more about the article itself.
If voters have more sense, and you believe that, then why do you feel compelled to warn them.?
If this isn't the pot calling the kettle black I don't know what is.. Sounds like this individual learned their tactics from this news paper.
I say, the author of THIS scurrilous document, (The News Sun) had no facts so depends on innuendo instead EVERY WEEK.
Who gave you the power to decide whether or not a QUESTION has facts as their basis Jane?
Questions are simply that a question.
Asking questions whether you like them or not is the means for getting to the truth. In your business Jane you should know this. Questions, have no truth or lie to them until you ask them and then get the answers.
You judge the truth of the question by the answers given to them.
This paper is guilty of not asking the questions, but is also guilty of not seeking and then printing the truthful answers. Especially about those they wish to defame.
Jane you won't even sign your name to these opinion pieces you write . You hide behind the Opinion / Editorial title.
Talk about being a coward !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I quote the Sun below:

You know Jane, I ask myself this same question everytime I read one of yours or Thelmas articles or Opinion pieces. Why would anyone with good sense take to heart or listen to anything that you print?
I quote the Sun further:
"In the second place, because the piece is anonymous, Knoblock had no way of responding to it. He could only hope that voters had sense enough to see through it for what it is."
What do you mean Knoblock can't respond because it is anonymous? What are you talking abou?. You just responded for him. He could have done that himself.
If these Questions have no merit then why not respond? I am sure that this paper would give Knoblock space for a rebutal. You dedicated more than half of your ANONYMOUS opinion piece running to his defense as you have for others of YOUR CHOICE in the past. Are you worried?
Another quote by your paper:
"This kind of dirty trick is the reason more qualified candidates don't present themselves for election. As we head toward November, we hope the author of this disgusting collection of innuendos will think better of it and desist."
You are referring to the News Sun here RIGHT??????
You want to supress any political speech in this community except yours and those who agree with you. WOW that really defines who you are as a paper and as a person.
Another Quote:
"And if you are approached by someone handing out anonymous slander about any candidate, call them by their proper name: coward."
I would like to add the words OR ANY ONE ELSE after candidate.
Now, let me be the first:
COWARD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

" One would guess Jane Amari writes the editorials while sitting next to God. The editorials take the stand they can never be in error. But in reality they are just the opinion of one person. A person who has shown time after time she is far from perfect. Often her reasoning has no basis other then being her belief at that time. He opinions have hurt people who should have not have been hurt while having unending support for some who have proven sadly inapt. She is entitled to her opinion, as we all are. Readers just remember what you read is nothing more the one persons opinion. She is no more or less important then you. "
