After low turnouts recently, organizers of the Sept. 18 San Pedro Valley Fair in St. David are hoping to bring back some old traditions and good times this year.
The fair is put on annually by the St. David School District, with groups like the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), putting in the hours to organize the event for the local community.
Jean Gregory, director of FCCLA, said he she remembers going to the fair when she was a kid and loved every minute of it.
"This is something that's been happening for 77 years, and I remember when I was a kid, it was huge," she said. "Now, it hasn't been as big of a deal. We are hoping to fix that this year."
The fair is held the week before the Cochise County Fair in Douglas.
FCCLA will be in charge of competitions in canning and cooking, and will run the concession stand to earn club money.
Gregory said one of the traditions being brought back is giving blue ribbons and money for first place.
Gregory said with St. David being a small community where there isn't a lot to do, a community event is important.
The students and staff in St. David have been working for several weeks to organize the upcoming event.
The annual fair will be held at St. David school on Saturday, Sept. 18. Call St. David School at 720-4781 for information.
