Benson Police Officer Cpl. Troy McGoffin sustained injuries to his eyes, head and knees when he was allegedly assaulted on Sept. 24 by a man who has been arrested for the attack.

The incident took place around 1:43 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24 behind the Desert Rose Inn off Highway 90, said Benson Chief of Police Paul Moncada. McGoffin was transported by ambulance to University Medical Center in Tucson where he was treated and released.

The alleged assailant, Alfred Brown, 60, of Jackson, Miss. was transported to the Benson Hospital where he was treated and subsequently taken to the Cochise County Jail. He is being held without bond on two charges of aggravated assault.

At the time of this writing Wednesday morning, Moncada did not know what, if anything, initiated the alleged attack on McGoffin. No further information about the incident has been made available to the News-Sun.
