While enjoying the parade, rodeo, fireworks display and other featured events during the City’s annual Butterfield Stage Days celebration on Saturday, be sure to return to Lions Park on Sunday for the annual car show.
Sponsored by the Benson Rotary, last year’s event drew more than 40 entries and offered nine categories. In 2011, the event’s coveted Best of Show went to a Corvette, with awards going to the first-place entry in each of the nine categories, said Bob Lujan, who chairs the car show for the Benson Rotary Club. To date, some of the entries that have already registered include street rods, modified cars, foreign cars, a 1946 Dodge pickup, 1956 Chevrolet truck and a 1968 Mustang, to name a few.
“Along with the car show, we’re going to have DJ Diego playing 50’s and 60’s music,” said Lujan. “We’re also going to have a 50/50 raffle and the Rotary will be selling soda and water there.”
Registration is from 8 to 10 a.m., with judging from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. In addition to judges, members of the public are invited to vote for their favorite car.
All proceeds from the event go toward scholarships for graduates of Benson and Saint David high schools.
