BENSON — They came from dissimilar parts of the USA: he from the tiny town of Aztec N.M. and she from Chicago, Ill. When Calvin and JoAnne Wood bonded together in September 1976, they discovered two important links: they both disliked snow and they both wanted a retirement that involved an activity they mutually enjoyed and could do together. Hence the White Buffalo is this month’s Chamber of Commerce Spotlight Business.
It took two years of intensive searching for Calvin and JoAnne to locate that special place in which to settle. Blanco, N.M., Prescott, Strawberry, Sierra Vista, Wilcox and Safford were each explored, until they checked out Benson. It was a perfect fit… a perfect place with a perfect house and business location at a perfect price.
JoAnne set up their new house as Calvin set up their new shop, opening the White Buffalo in November 2017. And today, with little Zoe as official greeter, there are absolutely no regrets.
“We love it here. We thank all our faithful customers and invite new customers to come in and see what we are all about.”
Combing the area through estate sales and auctions, one never knows what special items are to be found at the White Buffalo, 251-C West 4th St., and open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Calvin and JoAnne are also active Ambassadors of the Benson|San Pedro Valley Chamber of Commerce.
