BENSON — A local woman died Wednesday a day after she was hit by a pickup truck in Benson.
Benson Police Chief Paul Moncada identified the deceased as Princess A. Strom, 71. She was struck on Jackson Street near the Interstate 10 304 exit on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Moncada said police received report of the incident at about 6:48 a.m. The chief said the driver reported the incident after having returned to the scene after he’d initially thought he’d hit an animal.
“A gentleman driving to work about 6 a.m. felt the thud and thought he’d hit a deer,” the chief explained. It was after his arrival at work and discussion with a coworker that led to further investigation of the vehicle which indicated it might actually had been a person who was struck.
The driver and coworker returned to the area of the incident where they encountered Strom lying in the weeds at which time they called authorities, said Moncada.
The chief said the driver of the 2003 Dodge pickup showed no signs of impairment. The driver’s identity is withheld because there have been no citations issued. Moncada said the investigation is ongoing.
