BENSON — It has become an annual tradition in the San Pedro Valley and Monday will be no exception.
The Veterans Day observance in Benson will be held at Veterans Memorial Park at 10:30 a.m. The tribute is organized by members of the Barney-Figueora Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6271, with assistance from the Marine Corps League Detachment, American Legion Post 45 and the respective auxiliaries.
The program will feature speakers, gun salute and taps on the 11th hour.
It’s an important observance, said VFW Post 6271 Commander Tom Farnsworth, and one he hopes will draw a proper turnout from the community.
“Everything we do and everything we have, we have because of freedom, and the only reason we have our freedom is because of our veterans — that’s how important it is,” said Farnsworth, inviting the community to pay tribute.
Following the ceremony, veterans and attendees welcome to a potluck lunch at the Post, 233 E. 5th St. The observance is open to the public.
