BENSON — “A Salute to State and National Parks.”

That’s the theme for the upcoming Butterfield Stagecoach Days Parade Oct. 12 at 9 a.m. and which will help kick off two days of family-oriented fun. The theme is in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Arizona’s first national park, the Grand Canyon, explained Trudi Harlan, of the GFWC-AZ Benson Junior Woman’s Club, organizers of the annual parade.

And along those lines, Jim Hansen, the longtime Benson resident honored recently for the numerous volunteer hours at Kartchner Caverns State Park, has been named this year’s Parade Grand Marshal.

The Parade route is as in years past – north on Patagonia, west on Sixth east on Fifth to Gila St., south to Seventh then back to Patagonia.

The parade is a fundraiser for the Benson Jr. Women’s Club which sponsors scholarships for high school and college students, provides assistance to needy families during the holidays, and donates to other community groups throughout the San Pedro Valley.

Parade applications are available by contacting or calling (520) 720-8116 after 5 p.m.
