Tom Olson of AZ Geology for Kids, held a fossil hunt on Wednesday in the Whetstone Mountains. Rock hounds from Vail, Whetstone and Benson attended.

The outing yielded results. The young — and adult — rock hunters were beyond exuberant by fossil finds so close to home. According to one attendee, “... Olson explains in simple terms that children can understand. He explained about the different layers in the mountains and the fault running down the San Pedro River that was visible from our location.” Fossil hunts are open to the public. Stay tuned for the details on the next one!
