BENSON — The holiday season kicks off Saturday, Dec. 7 with the chamber’s Christmas Off Main and the city’s light parade and Christmas tree lighting.
More than 40 vendors are lined up for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8, along with a full lineup of entertainment at Historic Apache Park on Sixth Street. Activities will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, featuring carriage rides, photo booths, face painting, Santa and more. Entertainment begins at 9 a.m. each day. Performers include Christmas Carolers, a tribute to veterans at 10 a.m., the Tucson Prune, Mariachi Plata, Danny Many Horses — Native Flute, Elliott Family Western Music, Larry Farris in Concert and country music.
The eighth annual light parade, underway at 6 p.m., sponsored by the City and Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative, is sure to cap the night off with plenty of sparkle. Parade theme is Christmas movies.
Parade staging is behind the high school football field with entry off Union St.. The parade starts at Union and Patagonia, travels north to Fifth Street, east to San Pedro and south to Seventh. Judging and announcing will be in front of the Benson Museum on Fifth.
The tree lighting will follow the parade at City Hall, and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, cookies and hot chocolate.
On top of that, Benson City Grille is hosting a pair of “family-friendly” events to include a traditional Christmas Dinner on Friday, Dec. 6 and full breakfast on Saturday, Dec. 7. Each event includes hot cocoa with peppermint stick and whipped cream, photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus, Christmas stories and more. Call (520) 586-2525 for reservations and information.
