FAFSA night: Free Application for Federal Student Aid Night at Benson High School. Prospective college students and their parents can receive on site professional assistance as they plan for secondary education.

Students are invited to participate in FAFSA Night at the Benson High School in the cafeteria on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., at 360 S. Patagonia St. Students can get assistance completing financial aid forms and discuss financial resources and receive instruction on how to apply. Cochise College financial aid experts will answer questions and assist students in applying for financial aid and scholarships. This event is free and open to the public. Bring your and your parent’s 2018 tax information.

Barbecued ribs: The Benson Friday VFW Dinner on Jan. 17, features barbecued ribs, beans, potato salad, dessert, coffee or tea. Cost is $8. Call 586-2197 for takeout or additional information. The Jan. 24 menu for the American Legion Auxiliary dinner features lasagna, garlic bread, salad, and dessert. Open to the public.

Benson Lions Club: The Benson Lions breakfast, first and third Sunday monthly, is set for Jan. 19, 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Serving pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee/tea, juice for $6. Proceeds benefit local charities and schools. The Jan. 10 dinner features barbecued chicken breast, mashed potatoes, vegetable, salad and dessert.

Benson Historical Museum: The museum kicked off 2020 with the “Women of Note” exhibit, depicting the women of the San Pedro Valley and their noted contributions to the valley’s development. The museum is also offering the Dr. Hesser and the 1800s era parlor that belonged to a Tombstone undertaker, along with the mastodon tusks excavated in Curtis Flats in a 1970s archeological dig. CPR classes: The Mescal-J6 Fire District offers CPR training classes are held monthly. Cost is $35 for Basic Heartsaver CPR or $40 for BLS Healthcare Providers.
