BENSON — It’s one of the events that’s heavily looked forward upon in the San Pedro Valley, particularly for the many residents who call the area home.
Kindergarteners and fourth-graders at Benson Primary School have been busy rehearsing and writing their letters and cards of appreciation to veterans.
The public is invited to the Veterans Day Program Friday [Nov. 9] at 9 a.m. at the Barney-Figueroa VFW Post 6271 in Benson, 233 E. 5th St.
The kindergarteners, fresh off their performance Friday night at the Benson Bobcats football game which drew a hearty round of applause, will sing the national anthem, as well as a selection of patriotic songs selected for the occasion.
The fourth-graders will follow the tradition set by former fourth-grade instructor Bob Singler who annually would walk his class to the VFW to offer their letters and cards of appreciation for the veterans, many of whom were and continue to be moved to tears.
“It’s a program we all look forward to and one that’s important for our young boys and girls to know… it’s important that we honor and pay tribute to our veterans,” Benson Primary School Jomel Jansson has said.
