With elimination of Catholic Community Services’ senior nutrition program, a sense of bittersweet will surely fall over San Pedro Golf Course Saturday.
Normally gathered at this time for the Senior Meals Golf Tournament, the main fundraiser for the Northern Cochise County Senior Meals program for homebound elderly and disabled residents, Saturday will mark a goodbye of sorts, explained Leisa Cotten, the former nutrition director at CCS and the driving force behind each event. This year would have marked the 15th annual, and it will again, sort of.
Past supporters, and there have been many over the past 14 years, are invited to the “Say Farewell Senior Meals Tournament,” on Saturday morning. Cotten is hoping the annual “regulars” whose unwavering support, helped the program stay afloat year after year, despite the searing, triple-digit desert temperatures.
Cotten said Saturday’s event is not to raise money but rather more a “thank you” to all the golfers and supporters of the annual event.
Tournament format is a four-person scramble with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
